What Is The SG Petch Sprint Championship

The SG Petch Sprint Championship is an arrive and drive go-karting Championship held every year in Teesside. Attracting drivers from the local area and further afield, it offers an affordable entry into Championship karting with competative racing up and down the field. With grids regularly full, booking in advance is often required demonstrating the popularity of this series.

Categories & Classes

To help ensure fair racing, 2 weight categories exist with lightweight and heavyweight classes racing separately. Unlike some other karting Championships the weight classes in the SG Petch Championship are based on minimum entry weights, set at min. 70kgs for lights and min 85kgs for heavies.

For those who are new to kart racing different experience classes also exist with rookies and clubman classes in addition to the main Championship, with the rookies racing on their own to ensure all drivers get a good race.

Race Day Format

Racing in the SG Petch Sprint Championship is held on a Sunday morning at the start of the month, with the season running from March to October featuring a summer break in August.

Each weight category complete all their sessions back to back, with the lightweight class on track first, followed by the heavyweight and then the rookie classes. Each class gets:

  • 10 minute practice/Qualifying
  • Race 1: 20 minutes
  • Race 2: 20 minutes

To ensure fairness in respect of karts, the second race is also a reverse grid for the top 15 drivers. This means that if you're kart is super fast and gives you an unfair advantage, you'll only have that kart for one race.

Where Is The Championship Held?

The SG Petch Sprint Championship is held at Teesside Autodrome one of, if not the longest kart track in the UK at over 2km for the international track.
